How AHA’s and the NDIS Works
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s extensive program dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities. The scheme provides essential services and therapies, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their disability, has the opportunity to live a fulfilling life with the support they need. Through the NDIS, eligible participants receive funding to access personalised services and supports, fostering inclusivity and promoting independence.
Allied Health Assistants and the NDIS
Allied Health Assistants (AHAs) work under the supervision of qualified therapists - such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and exercise physiologists - to help implement therapy programs, monitor progress, and provide consistent, practical support. AHAs do not create treatment plans but play a vital role in delivering therapy tasks and activities as prescribed by your clinician.
At Thrive Health Therapies , our AHAs help bridge the gap between therapy sessions and daily life - making therapy more regular, accessible, and affordable.
Accessing NDIS Allied Health Assistant Services in Adelaide
What type of NDIS funding do I need?
Allied Health Assistant services are usually funded under the Capacity Building category of your NDIS plan. Specifically, these services may be accessed through funding areas like Improved Daily Living, Improved Health and Wellbeing, or other therapy-related goals as determined by your clinician. Because AHA sessions are lower-cost than those delivered directly by a therapist, they allow you to stretch your budget further - especially when ongoing support is needed to achieve your goals.
Review your NDIS plan or speak with your support coordinator to understand what’s available to you.
How do I find a service provider in my local area?
You can use the NDIS Provider Finder to search for allied health assistant services in your local area by postcode. You can also contact your support coordinator or LAC (Local Area Coordinator) for guidance.
